SOCIAL MEDIA PAGE ANALYSIS

For this task I am going to analyse two artists's Instagram's social media pages. I have chosen two artists who I believe produce similar music genres as the song I have chosen for my music video recreation. These genres are electropop and synth-pop.

For my first artist, I have decided to analyse Taylor Swift's social media page, given that I believe that through her journey she has passed through both stages of music genre and many more.

I have also chosen Taylor because I am a big fan of her and I know all about her professional journey over the years and therefore I can highlight the important features in her Instagram that reflect Taylor's journey in real life.

First IMPRESSION - Easy SPOTTED

Matches - The stations + her albums and a representative colour pallet of the stations

She made social media her lifeline to connect with her Swifties, as the number one Taylor Swift's fans call themselves.

It’s no secret to say that Taylor’s celebrity status has helped her gain followers but she still makes her Instagram worthwhile to watch.

Things I have learned by looking at TAYLOR'S INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT MORE IN DETAIL.

Taylor posts consistently but she has a flexible posting habit she may post 20 times per month - to not posting anything in 1 year but I mainly think that it depends completely on different factors like the release of new albums… the tours and concerts.

Specially at the top of the posts she releases photos with friends + her cats things that will make the audience the fans will feel more in relation to her, and may see her more like a person than like just like a star, a more Ideolized image.

We know this is Taylor's official Instagram account because of the little blue tick she has next to her name. The tick is used to identify the real accounts with the fake ones.

Taylor has 249 million followers but doesn't follow anyone back not even her famous friends.

The first clue we get about her Instagram

This immediately gives us a clue of how professional her Instagram account is, The fact that she only uses this account to present herself to the world may make us think that maybe she personally is not the one who handles her account, maybe her assistant of someone that works for her.

Profile picture from her new album cover Midnight - vintage - fire danger & power - Maybe referring that she always had power.Taylor isn't challenging the camera by looking directly at us - maybe she doesn't see us as a problem or as a worthy opponent she is more cautious of the fire and how it will react.

What it says next to her profile photo - Statement I'm the problem, It's me - a verse from one of her new songs, same as the profile photo. This makes us think why is Taylor swift the problem, it can make us curious and want the fans to look at her Instagram.

Adds more personal touches, the cats, filming herself talking, singing and writing her songs.
She uses the stations in which she releases her albums to her advantage. Simple but still efficient and unique strategy.
Nice colour, are easy to look at, comfortable for the eyes.
Continuing with her iconic look always - red lips and same blond hair - always the never change - may give the audience a sense of familiarity given that in her 22 years of carer she has never changed her features .

All the publications have been made and posted according to the Netflix logo - this tecnique in my opinion makes it easiier to watch for our eyes it aprishiates more the mixture of colours and makes sure that the colours don't crash

Design / Layout - In general her designed posts in my opinion are simple but when viewing all of them together it gives a different kind of meaning given that she layed out the posts really carefully in order to clearly distinguish the different stages of her journey, from colour to the messages she puts in the posts. For example at this point she has a simple design of concerts which the layout looks like a collage of photos which when mixed say more than one person than all the separate layers for example the posts with letters and with her friends really contrast by making it give the impression that we are viewing an ascetic book of her life.

Choice of Images - Starts to add a more personal point of view into her Instagram at this stage, lots of pictures with her friends, her personal life and her cats. This new Taylor starts to add personal details into her Instagram and tries to confront everything and not caring what others think and also at this stage she starts to do speeches and actually trying to challenge some things in society and start facing her problems. This starts making her fans relate more to her persona and to idolise her, Making people feel represented and closer to her than before when everything was mostly superficial now it’s deep.

TAYLOR added a new song to her REPUTATION album called Delicated, in which she states that her reputation has never been the worst. Which became a huge hit, maybe because the fans took pity on her.

After Delicated she continued on the tour and again started to gain more fans and followers. At this stage of her social media I can really feel that this is her professional account because of how the layout is structured, you can really see the stages in Taylor's professional journey.

EFFECT - Feeling lost, Taylor is Trying to give to the fans everything she has. -

Colour - Black - But also adds a bit of colour, like a disco ball, CONCERTS, PARTY

Wording - DEEP wording - she has been lost and is trying to find herself

Font - Her typography, writes on some papers - Natural - form of engagement with fans - not a perfect writing but a pure - real and messy one - the beauty are the flaws the curves have.

- Reputation album impacted Taylor's career negatively

- In reputation she published the song, look what you make me, in which in the song she said that the old Taylor is dead an that this is her new beginning, this is why the other albums are not shown in her Instagram giving the impression that the old Taylor never existed and that most defenetly is never part of her new version.

This is the lowest section of Taylor's Instagram,

- ALBUM REPUTATION - Highlighted the OLD Taylor's DEATH and NEW Taylor’s REBORN

Album impacted Taylor's career negatively - OCTOBER - HALLOWEEN matches the props, costumes and genre.

In 2017 Taylor published the ALBUM REPUTATION which contained the SONG - LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME DO. This song Highlighted the OLD Taylor’s DEATH and that a NEW Taylor was REBORN. She changed completely her style and the genre of music she used to create. This can be seen reflected in her instagram.

She deleted all the photos she published from before 2017 - Maybe to EXAGGERATE her DEATH and REBORN, like a new beginning

THE SNAKE to start her posts may be there to transmit the reborn vibe

By how SNAKES usually change skins, she might identify with it, Another idea could be the fact that snakes have the stereotypes or facts of being:

Cold blood
Beautiful
Dangerous
Powerful

And Taylor Swift by the colour pallets, body language, makeup and lighting she used at this stage of her Instagram may relate her to the snake's adjectives.

TAYLOR also includes snakes in the music video of LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME DO.

This song was a wake up call for the old Taylor to let the NEW TAYLOR come out.

The OLD Taylor was: Nice, warm and she used to rely on a vintage stile and pastel colour pallet ALBUM 1982 in 2014. Will be seen again further on the social media page…

The NEW Taylor was: Black colours, shadows, SNAKES, DEATH, Skulls and diamonds.This is seen in the photo in the middle in which she is biting down on a necklace made from DIAMONDS and being bathed in a tub filled with diamond jewellery, emphasising that she has money and that Money = POWER and also that DIAMONDS are strong, beautiful and cold maybe relating herself to them. She is wearing perfect make, which is referring to her BEAUTY

Although the new version of Taylor Swift idea did not make a good impact more like the new version made her lose a lot of fans, making REPUTATION one of the least popular albums Taylor made.
